visit usRoanoke Valley Unit meets the second Friday of the month, September through May, at First United Methodist Church of Salem, Virginia from 10:00 – Noon. Our business meeting serves as a model for a brief meeting, and we follow that with a “parliamentary clinic,” in which members and guests pose problems they are encountering in other groups. We examine situations and brainstorm how to solve problems by using Robert’s Rules of Order. The exercise is sometimes challenging, but it helps keep our skills sharp!
The second half of our meeting is a program that is designed to delve into certain aspects of parliamentary procedure with more attention to details and fine points. During the 2017 – 2019 program years we are studying motions. There have been a lot of nuances to consider and interpret. Even our more experienced members are learning how to unknot some of the more confusing aspects of motions. We love guests and extend a warm welcome! |
join usThere are four main categories of membership:
1. Provisional Member 2. Primary Member 3. Registered Parliamentarian 4. Professional Registered Parliamentarian Anyone with an interest in parliamentary procedure is welcome to join our Unit as a Provisional Member. The dues are $15 per year. We offer a course of study based on Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised in Brief, which is the basis for the Primary Membership examination given under the auspices of the National Association of Parliamentarians. We encourage our Provisional Members to take that next step. Dues increase based on the annual rate from N.A.P., but you will receive National Parliamentarian, the journal of N.A.P., and discounts in the association’s online store. To become a Registered Parliamentarian and a Professional Registered Parliamentarian requires even more study, however the benefit of those levels is being able to offer more services to organizations who require a professional parliamentarian’s extensive knowledge. |
