A brief history
In March 1963, our Unit was organized by a Registered Parliamentarian, Mrs. L.T. St. Clair, with the help of Mrs. C.H. Givens, R.P. It came about as an outgrowth of a parliamentary procedure class taught by Mrs. St. Clair to eleven members of the Roanoke County Woman’s Club and one member of the Salem Woman’s Club. The classes netted them credit for 24 hours of study. The National Association of Parliamentarians issued the charter on April 10, 1963.
At the present time, Roanoke Valley Unit is the sole unit of N.A.P. west of Charlottesville, and we currently have members who hail from Bedford County, Botetourt County, Floyd County, Henry County and Roanoke County. We include the cities of Martinsville, Roanoke and Salem within those entities. |
